Welcome To Reece Gallery...

CREATIVITY IS THE HUMAN SOUL REACHING OUT SAYING...
"HERE IS WHAT I SEE, HEAR, AND FEEL!" ...  Thom Reece

This blog is an outlet for the creative side of me.  It will include images of my photography, paintings and, on occasion, some short stories and essay's.

Most of my working life has been spent in the marketing arena... as a copywriter, direct response strategist, and promotional consultant.  At my core, however, is an artist who has longed to spend his days creating beautiful things... using a camera, brush, or pen.

The creative side of me comes naturally... I have a number of ancestors who were accomplished artists, a sister who excites us all with her beautiful reverse glass painting and decorative art, another sister who is a skilled stained glass artist, and a brother who works with matting and framing.

As a young school boy I developed a keen interest in photography and served as my high school publications photographer.  I have been an active photographer most of my life and have been lucky enough, through my extensive travels in the Pacific Rim & Asia, to build a large library of images numbering into the thousands.

I started drawing and painting while living in a remote cabin in the Kaloko rain forest on the west coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.  I first started working in colored pencil and graduated to trying to capture what was around me... exotic bird life, seascapes, tropical abstracts, and lots of what can only be called "doodling".

In 1990  I started working in oils and that was a period of absorption with color, forms, and island imagery that had permeated my heart and soul for so many years. I am particularly drawn to abstract painting that reflect the colors of the South Pacific... places like Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, Singapore, and many of the other places that I have visited or worked in.

Naturally the ocean has been a great influence... as has the brightly colored plant life and crystal clarity of the light.  Palm trees, sandy sunlit beaches, sea life, and all things Polynesian influence what I paint.  But, underneath all this is the emotional connection to island art , cultures, and history.  Visions of Captain Cook jump into my head and I can almost hear the sounds of old sailing ships as they strain against the wind and ocean swells.  Thatched roof huts, outrigger canoes, woven mats, and happy smiling faces of hospitable and loving people are my constant companions and inspiration.

I hope you enjoy this "Place of Refuge" and will return often to see new paintings,  photography of amazing sunsets, frolicking dolphins, breaching whales, or simple village life.  While you are here you might read a fun story or two.  All of my work is for sale and it would please me greatly to be able to share some of my work with you.

This blog will continuously evolve over time ... I hope to have you as a regular visitor.  Please feel free to share this site with your friends and those you love...

Warmest Aloha...
